Stampede in Mansa Devi temple of Haridwar, 6 killed: 25 staircase before temple

There was a stampede at Mansa Devi temple in Haridwar at 9:15 am on Sunday. It killed 6 people, while 29 people were injured. This temple is built on top of the mountain and to reach here, one has to climb about 800 stairs.

An eyewitness Santosh Kumar said that there were about 25 stairs left to reach the temple, when the accident occurred. The crowd was very high on Sunday. Meanwhile, some people caught the wire there and proceeded. During this time some wires were peeled and the current came in them. This caused chaos and people were killed by falling on the stairs.

Here, the Haridwar police described the matter of spreading the current in the temple as a rumor. Garhwal Division Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey said that the accident occurred due to huge crowd in the temple.

Haridwar SSP Pramendra Singh Doval said- 35 people were reported injured in the stampede at Mansa Devi temple. They were brought to the hospital, but 6 people died. The rest is undergoing treatment. At the same time, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has ordered a magisterial inquiry regarding the incident.

Mansa Devi Temple is built above Shivalik hills

Mansa Devi Temple is situated on the Bilva Mountains on the Shivalik hills in Haridwar. It is located about 3 km from Har Ki Pauri and can be reached through a 1.5 km climbing route or via ropeway.

CM Dhami met the injured, interacted with doctors
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reached the hospital and met the injured. After this, he interacted with doctors. The CM announced compensation for the families of the deceased and the injured. He informed that Rs 2-2 lakh will be given to the families of the deceased and 50-50 thousand rupees to the injured.
