Stray dogs will stay on the streets or go to shelter home? Supreme Court verdict today

Today the Supreme Court can give an important verdict regarding stray dogs in Delhi-NCR. The bench of three judges of the Supreme Court will start pronounced its verdict at 10:30 in the morning. On August 14, a 3 -judge bench reserved its decision after hearing. The Supreme Court bench will decide today whether there is a need to stop the decision of double bench to keep stray dogs in the shelter home.
Will the interim order be restored or will be stopped?
Earlier, a bench of two judges of the Supreme Court had ruled to send stray dogs to the shelter home, against which a bench of three judges was formed after the appeal. In front of this bench, it was demanded that the decision to keep stray dogs in the shelter home should be interim -banned, on which the court reserved the verdict. Now today the Supreme Court will issue an interim order and clarify whether there is a need to stop stray dogs in the shelter home. The bench of three judges of Justice Vikram Nath, Justice Sandeep Mehta and Justice NV Anjaria is going to give this important verdict.
What were the instructions given by the Supreme Court?
Earlier, after the decision of two judges of the Supreme Court, the campaign to catch stray dogs was opposed by the dog lovers. Demonstrations were also held in many places. In view of the increasing cases of dog bite, the Supreme Court took cognizance and instructed that-
- NCT Delhi, MCD and NDMC should start raising stray dogs from all areas, especially from sensitive areas and outskirts of the city as soon as possible.
- Stray dogs should be caught and kept in the shelter home. Keep the record of stray dogs caught and kept in the floor home.
- Reports should be given in 2 months on the infrastructure of Shelter Home in Delhi-NCR.
- The dog shelter will have enough employees for sterilization and vaccination of stray dogs.
- Stray dogs will not be left in roads/colonies/public places.
- CCTVs will be installed to monitor a dog or not taken out.
- If a person or organization prevents stray dogs from lifting, strict action will be taken against him.
In 2024, 37.15 lakh cases of dog bytes registered across the country
The Supreme Court issued this order on 28 July. Also, instructions were given to create a helpline for those who are victims of dog bite. After this, during the hearing in front of a three -judge bench, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta had said that in 2024, 37.15 lakh cases of dog bites were registered across the country, that is, about 10,000 people were victims of dog bites every day. According to the WHO report, in 2023, 305 people died of dog bite in 2023. A three -judge bench said during this hearing that the court also sympathize with the lives of stray dogs.
