Subsidy of up to Rs 9.6 lakh will be given on the purchase of electric trucks, government launched scheme
Heavy Industry and Steel Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Friday started a plan to give subsidy of up to Rs 9.6 lakh to customers on the purchase of electric trucks as part of the government’s PM e-Drive initiative. This is the first time a plan has been brought to promote the purchase of electric trucks. Under this scheme, 500 crore have been set for electric trucks out of the budget of Rs 10,900 crore. Other industries including port, logistic, cement and steel will be the major beneficiaries of the scheme. Under this, there are plans to support 5600 electric trucks.
Participation of trucks in increasing air pollution
Kumaraswamy said, “Despite having only three percent stake of diesel truck in total vehicle number, its contribution to transport-related greenhouse gas emissions is 42 percent. They increase air pollution significantly. This is the first plan for electric trucks directed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary leadership. This will take our country towards transportation transport, clean future and construction of India developed by 2047 in eco -friendly manner. This is in line with our purely zero carbon emission target by 2070. ”
There will be benefit on purchase of 1100 e-trucks in Delhi
Officials said that the incentive amount is reserved for about 1100 e-trucks registered in Delhi under this scheme. This will help in solving air quality concerns in the national capital. A budget of about Rs 100 crore has been set for this. It is mandatory for e-trucks to remove old trucks to get encouragement. The Ministry of Heavy Industries said, “Incentive to promote affordable stance will depend on the gross vehicle load of the electric truck and a maximum of Rs 9.6 lakh can be obtained.” These incentives will be provided as a lump sum cut in procurement price and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) will be given on the basis of ‘first come, first serve’ through the PM e-Drive platform.
5-year warranty will be available on the battery of e-trucks
Under this scheme, demand incentives will also be implemented on electric trucks of N2 and N3 category (for moderate and heavy freight) defined under the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR). The N2 category consists of trucks with gross vehicle load (GVW) of more than 3.5 tonnes and 12 tonnes while N3 category contains trucks with more than 12 tonnes and GVW up to 55 tonnes. To ensure the reliability of electric trucks, the manufacturers will provide a comprehensive manufacturer-supported warranty. This will include a warranty of five years or five lakh kilometers for the battery, while the warranty for the vehicle and motor will be five years or 2.5 lakh kilometers (whichever is first).
