Centerpada: Flood havoc in Odisha’s Kendrapara district is overshadowing people’s lives. The water of Brahmin and Kani rivers has entered the villages, causing many villages in Pattamundai blocks and Chaudkulat areas. But this time not only floods, but crocodiles roaming in villages have become a new problem for the people.
Flock of crocodiles on the streets
On Friday, flocks of crocodiles were seen floating on the submerged roads of many villages. When the flood water broke the forest and rivers and came towards the villages, the crocodile also came together. People are now so scared that they are avoiding leaving homes at night.
No crocodile attack has been officially confirmed so far, but there is a danger. There is a warning from the forest department that people should not get into flood waters and be vigilant around them. Apart from this, awareness campaigns are also being conducted so that people are careful not only with crocodiles but also poisonous snakes roaming in flood waters.
The district administration is engaged in relief work. So far, drought ration and clean drinking water are being delivered to more than 30 flood affected villages.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has warned that another low pressure area can be formed in the Bay of Bengal around 24 July. Due to this, heavy rains are expected in many parts of Odisha, especially coastal and northern districts from July 23.
In such a situation, the conditions of Kendrapara can worsen. People are already troubled by floods, the presence of crocodiles from above has increased the fear. The coming days for administration and people can be more challenging. (Input: Shubham Kumar’s report from Odisha)
