What is the whole matter
The Ranji Cricketer we are talking about is the former Ranji Trophy cricketer of Kerala Santosh Karunakaran. The Supreme Court has canceled the life ban imposed by Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) on former Kerala Ranji Trophy cricketer Santosh Karunakaran.
In 2019, Santosh Karunakaran filed a petition before the Ombudsman-Cum-Ethics Officer of the Kerala Cricket Association. He had demanded that a uniform by-loz (rules) be implemented in all the district cricket associations (DCAs) of the state, as the Supreme Court appointed by the Lodha Committee.
However, in October 2020, Ombudsman dismissed his petition. After this, Karunakaran turned to the Kerala High Court, but he did not get relief from there either. The court made strict remarks against him, describing him as a person with “Unclean Hands”, on the basis of which KCA banned him in August 2021.
Supreme Court verdict
Cricketer appealed to the Supreme Court, where a bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta ruled in his favor. The court admitted that Karunakaran did not get full opportunity during the hearing. Due to technical obstacles in virtual hearing, he could not present his side properly. They were not clearly given a copy of the decision and the reason.
The court said that the decision made by the KCA and the High Court was extremely rigid and unfair. Therefore, the Supreme Court canceling the lifetime ban and has again submitted the case to the Ombudsman-Cum-Ethics Officer, which will give a new verdict in a fair hearing in three months.
