Supreme Court reprimanded Yogi government, said – give Rs 25 lakh to those whose house was demolished by bulldozer
Lucknow. Reprimanding the case of illegal demolition of residential houses in 2019 under the road widening project, the Supreme Court has described the attitude of the Uttar Pradesh authorities as oppressive. The state government should give a compensation of Rs 25 lakh to the affected.
During the hearing, CJI DY Chandrachud said, you say that he was an encroacher of 3.7 square meters, but you are not giving proof of this. How can you start demolishing people’s houses like this? This is chaos, breaking into someone’s house. The Supreme Court has called it a serious matter. Also, questions have been raised on the administrative working style of the state.
Chief Secretary asked to investigate the matter
A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Mishra reviewed the matter and asked the UP Chief Secretary to investigate the matter.
What did the petitioner say?
According to the petitioner, the house was demolished without any prior notice or explanation on the grounds of encroachment on the highway. The petitioner claimed that the demolition of his house was an act of retaliation after he informed the media about alleged irregularities in the road construction project.
