In place of Suryakumar Yadav, the veteran player who can get the captaincy of Team India for the Asia Cup 2025 is none other than Hardik Pandya.
Suryakumar Yadav is currently recovering from sports hernia surgery, so the Indian team management is considering making Hardik Pandya captain for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025. Hardik brings a lot of experience in this role.
Hardik has so far captained India in 16 T20 international matches and has won 10 of them, and his win is 62.50%. He has led India in the five T20 International series, winning four of which has won and only one.
India’s current T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav recently underwent sports hernia surgery in Munich, Germany. They are currently health benefits and relaxation, so are not available for immediate international programs.
Surya was last seen playing during IPL 2025, where she played an important role for Mumbai Indians by scoring 717 runs. His name is also recorded for scoring more than 25 runs for 16 consecutive times.
India’s limited overs calendar and leadership change
Surya is not a part of the Indian team right now and there is some time for the T20 phase to start. So this break gave him time to undergo surgery. Surya is in the form, after taking over as T20 International captain after India’s World Cup win in June 2024.
Under Surya’s captaincy, the team has scored 250+ runs in T20 Internationals several times, including a huge score of 297 runs against Bangladesh in October 2024 – the third largest T20 international score in history.
Note- Right now the BCCI has neither announced the team nor the captain for the Asia Cup 2025. It is only based on possibilities.
