Cyber criminals can trap you through these information and can make a big fraud with you. The National Cybercrime Reporting Portal has issued advisory to the people to avoid it. Also, people have been advised to take some precautions while using social media platforms.

There are millions of users of social media platforms in India such as Facebook, Instagram, X (first Twitter), Telegram, WhatsApp etc. Cyber criminals choose their potential targets through social media platforms and then carry out the financial fraud with them. The cybercrime portal said that using social media is not wrong, but in every interaction done here, users should be cautious. Users also need to secure online social life.

Take these precautions

  1. Every interaction done through social media platform or chatting apps needs to be taken care of. Many times users do not know whether they are talking to a genuine person or scammer. In such a situation, these people should avoid giving any personal information.
  2. The ad or advertisements seen on social media platforms should be ignored. Many times scammers promote fake advertisements through social media platforms. If users accidentally go to these websites and enter their personal information, then cyber criminals can take advantage of it and fraud with them.
  3. Use a strong password when using social media apps or platforms so that the account cannot be hacked. Apart from this, you must enable two-factor authentication. Nowadays, all social media platforms 2FA i.e. two-factor authentication. In such a situation, no one will be able to open your account without your permission.
  4. Avoid sharing your personal photographs, location, address, mobile number etc. on social media platforms. Some people share their personal information on social media platforms in the affair of likes, which can later create trouble for them.
  5. Not only this, make the privacy settings enabled in social media accounts so that the access of your profile can only be done to your knowers. An unknown user will not get personal information recorded on your profile and you will remain secure.
