Head coach: The next big tournament of the cricket world is the Asia Cup 2025, which will be played in September. Probably both India and Pakistan are participating in it. Prior to the Asia Cup 2025, the Pakistan Cricket Board has made a big change and appointed a new coach for Test format. Former all-rounder Azhar Mahmood has been made the head coach of Pakistan’s Red-Ball team. The appointment has been made till April 2025 and will replace Jason Gilespie and Gary Kirsten, who recently resigned from his post.
Azhar is part of the management for a long time
Azhar Mahmood was working as an assistant coach of the Pakistan team since April 2022 and has now been given the responsibility of the Test team. According to the board, Azhar is an experienced cricket, whose strategic contribution has been continuously beneficial for the team.
PCB said, “Azhar Mahmud’s deep knowledge towards cricket, international experience and success in English county cricket makes him perfectly suited for this role.”
Pakistan has high expectations from Azhar
The PCB is confident that Pakistan’s Test team will be more disciplined and successful in Azhar Mahmud’s coaching. Apart from this, the board has also indicated that if the results are positive then Mahmud’s term can be extended further.
Let us tell you that Azhar Mahmood played 21 Tests and 143 ODIs for Pakistan between 1996 and 2007, and now he is ready to give a new direction to the Test team.
