According to Mumbai Police, the mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai terror attack, Tehwwur Rana is not cooperating in the inquiry. The Crime Branch of the Mumbai Police on April 23 questioned the accused Rana for about 8 hours at the NIA office in Delhi, in which he replied by turning around.
NIA is also interrogating Rana in Delhi. Efforts are on to find out what Lashkar-e-Taiba (Let) and Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI prepared and planned for more than 3 years for the 26/11 attack.
Rana is also being asked questions about those people, whose names were revealed in the intercept conversation between the terrorists and their handlers during the attack. These include big terrorists like Abdur Rahman Hashim Saeed, Sajid Majeed, Ilyas Kashmiri and Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi.
Patiala House Court of Delhi has sent Rana to the 18 -day NIA custody till 28 April. During the custody, NIA is preparing a diary of questioning Rana daily. After the last round of inquiry, he will be taken on record in the disclosure statement. This case is part of the diary.
Rana’s petition to talk to family rejected
On April 25, the Patiala House Court of Delhi dismissed Rana’s petition, in which he sought permission to talk to his family on the phone while in custody.
Rana’s lawyer Piyush Sachdeva had said in a petition filed in the court on 22 April, as a foreign national, he has a fundamental right to talk to his family, but the NIA opposed it. Said that investigation is going on, Rana can leak sensitive information.
Rana confessed to contact with Sajid Mir
Tahwwur Rana NIA was told during interrogation on 13 April that he was in constant touch with Global Terrorist Sajid Mir, who is considered the mastermind of 26/11 attacks. During interrogation, Rana took the name of ‘Dubai Man’, who knew the complete planning of the attack.
The agency suspects that the person handled the network between Pakistan and Dubai and was playing an important role in the financial support of the attacks, logistic support. It was also learned that Rana also had close contact with Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI and had a special attachment to Pakistani army uniform.
