Union Minister of Textiles Mr. Giriraj Singh and Minister of State for Textiles Mr. Pabitra Margerita inaugurated the new office of ‘The Kunj’ and the new office of Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) in Vasant Kunj, New Delhi. ‘The Kunj’ is a handloom and handicraft platform. Do you know about The concept and vision of The Kunj? Establishing a historical place in the national capital that serves as a commercial center for handicrafts and handlooms of India.
What did Giriraj Singh say?
Union Textile Minister Giriraj Singh said that about one crore artisans will be benefited by joining this initiative. The purpose of The Kunj is to take artisans from village to global. The Kunj aims to create a world class venue where artisans, designers and cultural entrepreneurs collaborate, showcase and innovate. The Kunj has been launched from August 21 and is a 3 -month program which has been organized to connect the audience, empower the artisans and celebrate the prosperity of India’s handmade heritage.
Characteristics of the program
- Artisan Sangam- The center of the campus has a artisan confluence, a artisan-exhibition. It shows more than 100 handmade items manufactured by National Award winners, crafts gurus and skilled artisans across the country.
- Curateid retail and brand showcase- each retail space is designed individually. It has a dedicated storytelling wall that describes the trip to the artisan enterprise or brand, ethos and values.
- Kala Manch- Artisans from all over India will perform craft-building live-making including weaving, embroidery, block printing, terracotta modeling etc.
- Kalpa Kosh workshops- A series of workshops will be organized under the leadership of artisans. These workshops will be led by skilled artisans, which will give an opportunity to know about India’s diverse craft traditions and cultural stories.
- Vision Exhibitions- Regional Crafts, Diversity and Exhibition
- Cultural demonstrations and installations- lively folk programs and enchanting installations, celebrating India’s cultural prosperity.
- Cooking experiences- A curated food zone that serves authentic regional taste and traditional dishes.
- CCIC showroom- A premium retail space by CCIC, where India’s finest, handicrafts are displayed.
