Born on August 8, 1932 in Lalbagh, Mumbai, Dada Kondke, born in an ordinary Konkan family, was the real name Krishna Kondke. He was also known for his comic style as well as two-in-law dialogues. Dada Kondke’s childhood was spent in a chawl in Naigaon and this became an integral part of his personality. Due to the lack of financial condition of the family, he started working in his market. He later joined the Seva Dal band, which was his first step in the field of art. He started his film career in 1969 with Bhalji Pandharkar’s film Tambadi Mati. Two years later in 1971, Songdya made him an overnight star. The simplicity and humor of his character ‘Namya’ in this film made the audience crazy.

He then acted in films such as Pandu Havildar, Andhala Marto Dola, Ram Ram Gangaram and Bot Lavin Tithhe Gudgulya, which made him the unconscious king of Marathi cinema. So much so much that his 9 films were a hit in theaters for 25 weeks, for which her name was recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records. Dada’s films were identified with his two -interested dialogues and bold titles, such as a dark night and open my tongue. The title and dialogue became a challenge for the censor board, but Dada’s cleverness and political influence saved his films from being banned. He made Hindi and Gujarati films along with Marathi. His production company, Kamakshi Productions, gave several hit films with actors like Usha Chavan, Mahendra Kapoor and Ram-Laxman. Not only this, Dada Kondke was also very active in the Congress, a supporting party of the Congress.
