National Award winning science broadcaster Sarika Gharu, while giving information about the brightness of the moon of Sharad Purnima, said that on Thursday evening, the Moon came closest to the Earth this year and was present at a distance of only 3 lakh 57 thousand 364 kilometers. Due to the proximity of this phenomenon, which is called Supermoon in astronomy, it is spreading its moonlight in the sky with about 14 percent larger and 30 percent more brightness than the micromoon. The moon rising in the evening was in the form of a huge red sphere, then after some time it started shining like silver. Its brightness is minus 12.76 magnitude.
What is supermoon?
Science broadcaster Sarika told that the Moon revolving around the Earth does not revolve in a circular path, but revolves in an oval path. Due to this, its distance from the Earth sometimes increases to 406,700 km and sometimes it even comes closer to 356,500 km. When the Moon comes near the Earth and at that time the full moon occurs, the Moon appears about 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter. This is called supermoon.
