San Francisco:The US federal court has given a major blow to President Donald Trump. The judge on Thursday stopped the trump administration’s plan under which the temporary protected status of about 60,000 people in Central America and Asia was to be abolished. It consists of citizens of Nepal, Honduras and Nicaragua.

What is TPS?

TPS is a legal status that the US Home Safety Secretary can provide to foreign nationals whose countries are considered unsafe due to natural disaster, political instability, or other dangerous conditions. This status protects people from exile and allows them to work in America. Recently, Home Safety Secretary Christie NoM decided to end the TPS of thousands of people from Honduras and Nicaragua, saying that the situation in their countries is now safe. He said that these countries have recovered from the deadly storm “Mich” of 1998 to a great extent.

51 thousand people of Honduras and 7 thousand people of Nepal

The TPS period for about 7,000 Nepal was scheduled to end on August 5, while the security of 51,000 Honduras and about 3,000 citizens of Nicaragua was scheduled to end on 8 September. However, American District Judge Trina L. Thompson, while hearing in San Francisco, dismissed the plan to abolish these provisions and fixed the next hearing of the case on 18 November. He said in his judgment that the Trump administration took this decision without objectively evaluating the real situations of the country such as political violence in Honduras and recent storms in Nicaragua.

The judge gave this order

Thompson warned that if TPS ends, thousands of people will face jobs, health insurance and crisis like families, as well as they will be sent to countries where they have no connection anymore. He also said that the US economy would lose $ 1.4 billion due to expecting these people. He said in sharp words, “The demand of these petitioners is just that they can live freely without fear and realize the American dream. But they are being asked to leave the country due to their color, name and race.”

What did TPS lawyers appeal

TPS lawyers argued that the decision was inspired by Trump’s election strategy and racial bias. Thompson agreed and said that Trump and NoM’s statements reflect the feeling that certain racial communities are replacing the ‘white population’. He wrote, “Color is not a poison nor a crime.” Describing this decision as “good news”, Honduras’s Foreign Minister said that the government will continue to support the citizens of Honduras living in America.

Thousands of people left the country in Nicargua

Meanwhile, thousands of people have left the country due to human rights violations, political repression and restrictions on NGOs in Nicaragua. The case is part of the widespread immigration policy of the Trump administration, which is working towards eliminating the safety of migrants living in the US. (AP)
