The Election Commission will announce the schedule for Maharashtra and Jharkhand assembly elections on Tuesday (October 15, 2024). The Commission has called a press conference at 3:30 pm in New Delhi, in which these details will be shared.

The tenure of Maharashtra Assembly ends on November 26, while the tenure of Jharkhand ends on January 5 next year. Apart from the general elections to these two assemblies, the Election Commission may also announce by-elections to three Lok Sabha and at least 47 assembly seats, which are vacant due to various reasons.

The vacant Lok Sabha seats include Kerala’s Wayanad, Maharashtra’s Nanded, and West Bengal’s Basirhat. The Wayanad seat was vacated by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, as he retained the Rae Bareli seat. Congress MP from Nanded Vasant Chavan and TMC MP from Basirhat Haji Sheikh Nurul Islam have passed away recently.
