The entire Himachal declared ‘disaster’, how long will be applicable, will the Modi government give extra money?

Shimla: Floods and rain continue to wreak havoc from mountains to plains across the country. Himachal Pradesh is continuously having havoc. Seeing the critical condition of the disaster, Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu told the assembly on Monday that the entire Himachal Pradesh has been declared ‘disaster’ and relief and rescue operations are going loudly. The CM said that as long as the rain continues, the Himachal disaster affected state will remain. This order will be withdrawn when the weather is normal.

What is a disaster declared state?

In Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Sukhu government has issued instructions to declare disaster sector and implement the Disaster Act. Explain that the Central Government provides financial assistance when any state is declared disaster affected. In addition to the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), additional package can also be found from the Center and immediate relief materials, compensation, temporary shelters and health facilities are also provided to the affected people. Special schemes are run to restore basic facilities like houses, roads, bridges, electricity and water. Apart from this, the government can file a case against people under the Disaster Management Act on spreading rumors.

10,000 devotees traveling to Manimahesh rescued

In a statement on his behalf in the House, Sukhu said that 10,000 devotees out of 15,000 pilgrims trapped on the way for the Manimahesh Yatra in Chamba district were evacuated and the situation is being monitored. CM said, “There is a loss of Rs 3,560 crore from cloudburst, sudden floods and landslides. The most damage has been done to roads, bridges, water and power supply systems. I (disaster affected areas) have done an aerial survey.”

Work on opening of Kullu-Mandi National Highway continues

Sukhku said that 25 km long of Chamba-Bhrama National Highway and Chamba-Saluni-Padri-Jot road has been opened and Manimahesh passengers from Jammu and Srinagar are being sent by this route. Sukhu also told that he is discussing relief and rescue operations with the Chamba district administration. Giving details of the works, Sukhu said that the work of opening the Kullu-Mandi National Highway is going on while the fruits and vegetables of farmers trapped on the roads are being sent from Kullu.

What else did CM tell?

The Chief Minister said that power supply has been restored in most places, telecom contacts have been established in the entire Kullu district while mobile network is being restored in tribal district Lahaul-Spiti. Sukhu also said that Indian Air Force helicopters dropped ration in Keylong while five patients, including a child and a pregnant woman, were taken by air for treatment. He informed that the Lahaul-Rohtang-Manali route has been opened and cooked food, drought ration, blankets and ‘sleeping bags’ are being distributed to the affected people.
