The film released exactly 2 months before Sholay, for which Dharmendra became a truck driver
cinder.
It has been 50 years since Ramesh Sippy’s film ‘Sholay’ was released. This Cult film was released in theaters on 15 August 1975 and was so liked at the box office that even today it is well liked among the audience. The film featured stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Sanjeev Kumar, Amjad Khan, Jaya Bachchan and Hema Malini. From Jai-Viru to Gabbar, characters immortalized the film. Recently, Bollywood’s man i.e. Dharmendra also talked about this film, who played the role of Veeru in the film. Even though this film is counted among the best films of Hindi cinema, Dharmendra does not believe so. Yes, even though Sholay is one of the most important films of his career, he is not his favorite.
This film is Dharmendra’s favorite
On the occasion of the completion of 50 years of Sholay, Dharmendra recently spoke to ‘Indian Express’ and named his favorite film. Along with this, he also told that he also suggested the name of Amitabh Bachchan for Jai’s role in Sholay. During the conversation, Dharmendra told that he never thought that ‘Sholay’ would prove to be such a big hit. Along with this, he told that the ‘pledge’, not Sholay but just two months before this blockbuster, is his favorite film.
Did Dharmendra say?
Talking about Sholay’s success, Dharmendra said- ‘Of course we worked hard for Sholay, but I never thought that it would prove to be a milestone for my career. We shot it on the outskirts of Bangalore, which was very tired. There was no hotel nearby, so one had to go to the location 50 km daily. But, enjoyed a lot, there are many memories. Hema was also with me. Jaya was pregnant during that time.
Pledge more than Sholay
Dharmendra says- ‘Let me tell you one thing. In 1975, a film was released exactly 2 months before Sholay, a pledge was released, which no one talks about. But, I like this film of Dulal Guha the most. It was a very difficult role. I played a truck driver, who disguises the policeman. It was like playing another role inside a role. It had a lot of emotions, drama. There was a deep flow of emotions in it. Sholay, Satyakam is one of my favorite films, but pledge is my favorite. She came in 1975 with Sholay. However, no one paid attention to it. Let me tell you that despite the competition with Sholay, the pledge was super hit.
