Kim Sharma, currently with director Karan Johar, works as Vice President of Dharma Cornerstone Agency. He talked about the importance of making easy decisions in the film business in a conversation with Akshay Rathi in ‘The Film Hasle’ Podcast of India TV. He said that his agency works with partners on two fronts. On the one hand there are actors whose goodness, self-replication, status and strategies are our top priority.
Instinct is tool
Talking on the other hand, he said, “But there are also brands, producers, directors, filmmakers and writers who trust us and our opinion.” He also mentioned, ‘I think a large part of the decisions we take is based on instinct. There is no definite formula, you cannot say that it is going to work and it is not. ‘ Kim says, “There is an accurate instinct in this business a great tool.”
How is work in the industry
He said that he and Rajiv Masand, who are outsiders for the industry in some ways, depend entirely on their instincts. He said, ‘Their big connections, my friend within the industry and my understanding what is meant to be an actor?’ He admitted that his acting career was not successful, but still, he has a ten -year experience in the industry. He said, ‘I cannot go on big heights, but I know what a bad day is. I believe that it is more important to live with him in his bad days than someone’s good days.
How did the casting of animan happen
Kim emphasized the role of Instinct in casting. He said, ‘When it comes to making decisions, I put the instinct at the top. That feeling just to see something and this happens only when you are completely immersed in that character when you know them from inside and you know that they can do it and it can work. ‘ Giving the example of Bollywood actress Tripti Dimri in the 2023 film ‘Animal’, she said, ‘Will you traditionally cast a mainstream heroine in such a small role? Probably not. But this instinct is useful. Karan and Rajiv took this decision and see what he did for him.
