If you look at a little height, two big beautiful international sports grounds are seen together- the cricket pitch and with it Rugby Arena. The stadium is just 3 miles from the center of the city of Leeds and is very well connected to the city. Talking about cricket heritage, Yorkshire is one of the historic counties of England. This County Cricket Club has given England many such best cricketers who are contestants to join England XI directly. The list also has some names like Herbert Satcliffe, Lane Hutton and Geoff Boycott.

Initially, the attempt of Lord Hawke, founder of the Yorkshire County County Cricket Club, became Leeds cricket, football and athletic company and developed a multi sports ground. The first first class cricket match was played here in September 1890. In 1903, Yorkshire made his headquarters to Headingley. In 2005, the ground was purchased by Yorkshire County Cricket Club, a 12 million pound from the owner company and since then, for the demand and modernity, on different occasions, on different occasions, there have been many new constructions and changes in this ground. The first Test here was played against Australia in 1899.

In all these years, this stadium has seen many special records and unmatched performances in Test cricket:

The most amazing return: In 1981, England followed after being behind by 227 runs and at one time in the second innings he scored 135/7. Even then, he won the test by 18 runs and reversed the speculative market despite 500/1 auditions. In Test cricket only for the second time, a team won after following on.

Don Bradman’s two Tests 300: In 1930, he scored 309 runs in a single day and he is the only example of scoring 300 runs in a day’s game in a batsman’s Test. The next day he was dismissed for 334 runs. When Australia played the Test again in Headingley in 1934, he scored 304 runs this time.

Another 300: John Edrig of England scored 310* against New Zealand in 1965 with 53 fours and 5 sixes. In this innings, Edrich had a good chance to break the Test record of Gary Sobers’ 365*, but England declared the innings. The Test finally won by an innings and 187 runs.

100th 100: Geoff Boycott made his 100th 100 of the first class cricket here during the Test against Australia in 1977.

Stadium connection with India

India’s Test record here: played 7 matches, 2 Jeete (1986 and 2002), 4 Hare (1952, 1959, 1967 and 2021), 1 draw (1979)

* India lost their first three Tests here.

* The first win here got in 1986- then Kapil Dev was the captain.

* The second and last victory here got 16 years later under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly. India then scored a big score of 628/8 runs with the help of Rahul Dravid (148), Sachin Tendulkar (193) and Ganguly (128). He then won by an innings and 46 runs.

* In the 2021 series, the process of India’s not losing here broke and Virat Kohli’s team lost by an innings and 76 runs. In this Test, he scored just 78 runs in the first innings, which is India’s lowest Test score here.

* Here in the second innings in 1952, India’s first four wickets fell on the scoreboard without a single run, that is, the score was 0-4.

* In the 1967 series Tests, Geoff Boycott scored 246* and England also won the Test, but there was a big noise on his slow batting (555 balls in 573 minutes). Result- He was punished and dropped from the next Test team.

* In this Test, India’s captain MAK Pataudi scored 64 and 148, which many are counting one of the best batting performances of this ground.

* Yorkshire was the last English County Cricket Club that signed a foreign player to play in his team, in the county championship. The first foreign player to play for him was Sachin Tendulkar (in 1992).

* After this, history was formed and Yorkshire also signed Yuvraj Singh and Cheteshwar Pujara in the next years. This year, Ruturaj Gaikwad’s name is also joining this list. He will join the Yorkshire team in July from Surrey in Scarborough with a Rauthese County Championship game and will be famous with the team, known with White Rose till the end of the season.
