Impeachment motion will be brought against Yashwant Verma

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday underlined the government’s resolve to take all political parties in bringing impeachment motion against Justice Yashwant Verma, saying that corruption in the judiciary cannot be seen with “political glasses”. He said that the government wants this exercise to be a “collaborative effort”, which is caught in the alleged corruption case and who has been convicted by the Supreme Court -appointed committee. Rijiju told reporters here that they have started discussing with all political parties to bring a proposal against the Judge of the Allahabad High Court in the monsoon session of Parliament starting on July 21. He said that the government wants all the parties to bring a “joint” proposal to remove Justice Verma.

Kiren Rijiju said this

Rijiju said that he would contact small parties, while all major parties have already been informed about the plan to bring impeachment motion against Justice Verma. He said, “The government feels that the case related to corruption is not an agenda of any political party. Fighting against the threat of corruption is the attitude of all parties, whether it is a judiciary or any other area.” The minister emphasized that the government would like to take all political parties together on this issue because corruption in the judiciary cannot be seen with “political glasses”. He said that most parties would change their stance after discussing this issue internally. In response to a question, Rijiju said that the proposal will be brought to the Lok Sabha or in the Rajya Sabha, this decision will be taken on the basis of the functioning of each House.

What does the Judge (Investigation) Act 1968?

According to the Judge (Investigation) Act, 1968, when the proposal to remove a judge is accepted in any House, the speaker or chairman, as the matter, will constitute a three -member committee, which will examine the grounds on which the removal (or, in the popular word, impeachment) will be sought. The committee consists of the Chief Justice (CJI) of India (CJI) or Supreme Court Judge, Chief Justice of one of the 25 High Courts and a “reputed jurist”. Rijiju said that the current case is “a little different”, as an internal committee constituted by the then CJI Sanjeev Khanna has already submitted its report.
