Cyber criminals share photos from an unknown number on WhatsApp. These photos are shared for wedding invitations or information about anyone etc. People click on these photos without thinking anything. Cyber criminals share the hidden melware code with these photos. As soon as the photo is downloaded, the user’s phone also secretly downloads and the access of the device reaches the hackers. These mealware are so dangerous that they can also bypass two-factor authentications.
How to avoid
Cyber criminals are targeting both Android and iOS users through this new scam. To avoid this, WhatsApp users need to be vigilant.
- Users should avoid clicking on the photo or file coming from any unknown number.
- Apart from this, the auto-download feature will have to be turned off in the settings of WhatsApp.
- Keep updating your phone and anti-virus software at regular intervals.
- Report messages, calls, photos etc. coming from unknown number on Sanchar Saathi portal or app.
