According to the local people of Purnia, remembering that historical moment, Rameshwar Prasad Singh, the brave freedom fighter of Purnia, along with his colleagues Ramratan Sah and Shamshul Haq, took a major decision. He decided that he would celebrate independence at the moment it was declared. He hoisted the tricolor with full enthusiasm and pride at Jhanda Chowk in Purnia on the night of 14 August. He celebrated the first celebration of independence by distributing sweets and raising patriotic slogans.
This glorious tradition has been going on from generation to generation

This tradition launched by Rameshwar Prasad Singh is still alive in Purnia. Every year, on the night of 14 August, the entire city sinks into a festive atmosphere. People decorate homes, streets and schools with lights. Patriotic songs: Patriotic songs echo all around. People gather at the main flag of the city. At the exact midnight, the tricolor is hoisted in a grand ceremony and is given a salute.
