The popular story of calf Baras-
According to this legend, a long time ago, a moneylender lived with seven sons and ships in a village. The moneylender had built a pond in the village but for many years that pond was not filled. He called Pandit to ask the reason for not filling the pond.
Pandit said that water will be filled in it only when you either sacrifice your elder son or your elder grandson. Then the moneylender sent his elder daughter -in -law to Pihar and sacrificed her big grandson from behind. In this case, the thunderstorms came and the pond was full. After this, the calf came to Baras and everyone said that their pond is full, let’s go to worship it.
The moneylender went to worship the pond with his family. He had spoken to the maid to cook the wheat. According to the moneylender, wheat meant wheat paddy. The maid could not understand. Actually, the wheat cow calf was also named. He cooked the wheat. The wife of the elder son also came to worship the pond from Pihar. Then his elder son wrapped in a soil from the pond came out and said, Mother, love me too. Then the mother-in-law started looking at each other. The mother -in -law told the whole thing that sacrificed the daughter -in -law. Then the mother -in -law said, the calf Baras Mata took our shame and gave our child back.
After worshiping the pond, when she returned home, she saw, not a calf. The moneylender asked the maid, where is the calf? So the maid said that you had asked her to cook. The moneylender said, one sin has just landed, you have committed another sin. The moneylender pressed the cooked calf in the soil. When the cow returned in the evening, she started looking for her calf and then started digging the soil. Then the calf came out of the soil.
When the moneylender came to know, he also went to see the calf. He saw that the calf was busy drinking cow’s milk. Then the moneylender spread the matter in the entire village that every son’s mother should observe the calf Baras.
At some places, it is also mentioned in the story that wheat and moongla were two calves which were cut by the maid, so on this day the use of wheat, moong and knife is said to be forbidden.
