Who is Karni Mata
Karni Mata was born in a Charan family in the year 1387. Karni Mata’s childhood name was Rugubai. Rugubai was married to Kipoji Charan of Sathika village, but shortly after marriage, his mind got bored with worldly life, so he got Kipoji Charan married with his younger sister rose and put herself in his mother’s devotion and service to the people. After renouncing his family, his entire life was offered to worship Goddess and service to the people.
It is said that Karni Mata remained alive for 151 years and Jyotirlin took place on 23 March 1538. After his Jyotirlin, his devotees started his idol and started worshiping him, which has been going on since then.
Karni Mata is Kuldevi of Bikaner royal family. It is said that the princely states of Bikaner and Jodhpur were established with their blessings. The present temple of Karni Mata was built by Maharaja Ganga Singh of the princely state of Bikaner in the early 20th century.
Due to miraculous powers and public welfare works, local people started worshiping Rugu Bai in the name of Karni Mata. Currently, where this temple is built, Karni Mata used to worship her favorite goddess in a cave. This cave remains in the temple premises even today. After this, devotees of Karni Mata started worshiping her idol and started worshiping.
Rats are mother’s child
There is a belief about the mice living in this temple that they are children of mother. According to the popular story, Laxman, the son of Karni mother’s sister, died in an attempt to drink water in Kapil Sarovar located in Kolayat. When Karni Mata came to know about this, he prayed to Yama, the god of death, to revive her. Yamraj first refused to do so, but later he was forced to revive him as a rat.
By the way, another story is mentioned in the folk songs here. It is said that once an army of 20000 soldiers came to attack Deshnok, the mother made him a mouse with her glory and kept him in his service. Those who now protect them in the court of mother.
Rats are involved in Aarti
There are about 20 thousand rats in the temple of Karni Mata, which surprise everyone. During the morning Mangala Aarti and evening evening aarti, these rats get out of their bills and join the Aarti. Prasad, who offers to the mother, is also first fed to mice here.
White colored rat is visible, desire is full
At least 20000 rats live in the temple premises. White mice are considered very sacred in these mice. But according to belief, the wishes are fulfilled when the white colored rat is seen. There is a lot of competition of devotees here to see the rat.
Only mice rule here
As soon as you enter this temple, you will see things everywhere. Not only this, it will also jump in your body. Due to which you have to drag your feet here. So that no rat is injured. If you raised your leg and a rat was injured from your foot, it is considered inauspicious.
Devotees get special offerings
Rats living on the temple of Mata are called Kaaba. The rats first eat the offerings to the mother. It is then distributed among the devotees. There is a fine fake on the open places in the temple to protect this mice from eagles, vultures and other animals.
