Former Gautam Gambhir’s partner and former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwari has advocated to ensure transparency from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and telecast the selection meeting live keeping in mind the sentiments of cricket lovers across the country. He has expressed his displeasure over the exclusion of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer.

Tiwari believes that Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal were entitled to a place in the Asia Cup team. One-sided Shubman Gill was made the vice-captain to bring him back to T20, while Iyer was not even selected in the team. The decision led to a debate and questions were raised on the inclusion of Gill. Several people, including former national chief selector Chris Srikanth, severely criticized the selection panel to ignore Yashasvi and Shreyas.

Expressing his displeasure, Tiwari told the news agency ANI, “Those who are entitled to opportunities are not getting opportunities. So I have been saying for a long time that the selection meeting should be broadcast live so that sports lovers can understand why a player has been selected and not. It is not right to say one-one things about coming out in the press conference and then it is not right to say something separate.”

Shreyas Iyer was expected to join the 15 -member Asia Cup team after a brilliant season with Punjab Kings in IPL 2025. The Mumbai batsman scored 602 runs at a strike rate of 175. Iyer, who has never batted at a strike rate of more than 150 in a season before, adopted a high -risk method and achieved constant success. In contrast, Yashasvi, who was part of India’s 15-member team in the T20 World Cup last year, was also ignored.

Tiwari further said, “Two qualified candidates, Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal, are out of the team. If you see Gautam Gambhir’s old interview, he said that Yashasvi Jaiswal is a player who cannot be kept out of T20 cricket. Now, when Gambhir is a coach himself, there is no place for Yashasvi.”
