Political drama is being seen in Bangladesh since the coup of Sheikh Hasina. Meanwhile, the interim government of Bangladesh has withdrawn the title of Father of the Nation from its own freedom fighter and Bangladesh founder Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The interim government of Bangladesh has withdrawn the title by amending the defined law. Let me tell you that earlier the pictures of Sheikh Hasina’s father Mujibur Rahman were removed from new currency notes, after which the title of President has now been withdrawn from Mujibur Rahman. According to a report by the Dhaka Tribune newspaper, the interim government has changed the definition of freedom fighter by amending the National Freedom Fighter Council Act.

The title of Father of the Nation taken back from Mujibur Rahman

According to BDNews24.com portal, the word ‘Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’ and parts of the law which were named Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, have been removed. The Daily Star newspaper said that there has also been a slight change in the definition of liberation struggle in the ordinance. “In the new definition of Mukti Sangram, the name of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has been removed. The previous definition mentioned that the war was launched in response to Bangabandhu’s call for freedom.” According to the amended ordinance, according to the Dhaka Tribune report, all MNA (members of the National Assembly) and MPA (Member of the Provincial Legislative Assembly), who were later considered members of the then Constituent Assembly, will be classified as “ally”, where they were still recognized as freedom fighters.

Recognition of freedom fighter given to these people

According to the new amendment, all civilians who received war training within the country from 26 March to 16 December, 1971, enrolled in training camps in India with the aim of participating in war, took up arms against Pakistani military forces and their local colleagues occupied in search of independence of Bangladesh, and who were within the minimum age set by the government, they will be recognized as freedom fighters. Local colleagues include Razakar, Al-Bagh, Al-Shams, the then Muslim League, Jamaat-e-Islami, Nejam-e-Islam and members of the peace committees.

Why was the president’s title given to Mujibur Rahman?

Mujibur Rahman, called Sheikh Mujib or Bangabandhu, was the Father of Bangladesh and a prominent leader of the freedom movement. He was born on 17 March 1920 in Tungipara, Bengal (now Bangladesh). He was the founder and president of the Awami League, who fought for the rights of Bengalis of East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). Despite his party’s huge victory in the 1970 general election, West Pakistan refused to transfer power, after which Mujib declared independence in 1971. As a result, Bangladesh liberation struggle started, in which Bangladesh gained independence from Pakistan with the help of India. Mujib’s leadership, his inspirational speech (especially the speech of 7 March 1971), and his role in strengthening the Bengali Asmita gave him the title of Father of the Nation. His vision and sacrifice established Bangladesh as an independent nation.
