There is a threat to the lives of astronauts living in the Space Station, leakage is happening from 50 places in the ISS, know the whole matter

Science News Desk – NASA and Roscosmos have identified 50 ‘areas of concern’ on the International Space Station (ISS). There is a problem of leakage in these for a long time. Concerns have been raised about the leak in the report of NASA’s Inspector General Office (OIG). This leak has been happening in the Russian part of the ISS since 2019. The OIG report said that although NASA and Roscosmos are working to remove the leak, it poses a major ‘security threat’ to the astronauts there.

NASA officials said they are monitoring four cracks and 50 other ‘areas of concern’ on the space station. Speaking to The Washington Post, NASA officials said the cracks were filled by Roscosmos with a mixture of sealant and patches. NASA said the leaked area is a matter of concern and is a top ‘safety concern’.

The hatch has to be closed every day
Associate Administrator Jim Free said in an interview with the Washington Post that he had expressed concern several times about the seriousness of the leak. According to Frey, since these leaks are in front of a hatch, Roscosmos asked NASA to keep the hatch closed as much as possible. “We made an agreement that they (astronauts) would turn it off every evening,” Free said. NASA said in its statement that its astronauts live in the American part of the ISS so that they can be near the escape vehicle.

The escape vehicle is to be used in case of rescue of astronauts. However, NASA stressed that there is no immediate danger to the astronauts. The leak was first detected five years ago. Since then they are being continuously patched. According to the plan, the space station is to remain operational until 2030. In such a situation, space agencies are trying to ensure that the operations of the ISS are not disrupted by any small incident. When no longer needed, the ISS will be taken out of orbit.
