IRSA’s advisory committee meeting said that Pakistan may face a huge shortage of water during the Kharif season due to low water supply from India. There may be 21% water shortage in Pakistan in the early days of the Kharif season.
Chenab river water level declines significantly
The gates of Bagihar and Salal dams in Jammu and Kashmir have been closed by India. Due to this, the water level of Chenab river has declined significantly. According to local people, this decrease has come due to the decision to postpone the Indus Water Treaty. A local person told ANI that they do not want Pakistan to be given a single drop of water.
What is the Indus River Agreement?
Let us tell you that according to the treaty under the Indus River Agreement, the water of the Sanskrit Western rivers- Indus, Jhelum, Chenab has been allotted to Pakistan and the water of eastern rivers- Ravi, Beas, Sutlej has been allocated to India. According to this treaty, India gets 20 percent of the water and Pakistan gets the remaining 80% water from the Indus river system.
