These things should never be offered on Shivling, you will not get virtue, know the rules of worship
Shivling par kya nahi chadana chahiye: The month of Sawan is considered extremely sacred for devotion and worship of Lord Shiva. During this time, millions of devotees try to please Mahadev by offering water, milk, belpatra and other beloved items on the Shivling. It is believed that everything that is revered on Shivling is dear to Shiva and they fulfill the wishes of their devotees. But, do you know that there are some things that should not be offered on the Shivling by mistake? According to religious beliefs, offering these forbidden items does not benefit the benefit of worship, but can also have many negative effects. Let’s know what are those things that should be avoided to offer on Shivling.
1. Sindoor or kumkum Often women offer vermilion or kumkum to the deities, but it is considered taboo to offer it on the Shivling. Sindoor is a symbol of honeymoon and married women wear it for their husband’s long life. Lord Shiva is in the form of destructive and disinterest, so he is not offered vermilion or kumkum. Instead, applying sandalwood on Shivling is considered auspicious.
2. Basil leaves Tulsi plant is considered very sacred in Hinduism and it is very dear to Lord Vishnu. However, basil leaves are not offered on Shivling. There is a legend behind this that Lord Shiva killed a demon named Jalandhar, whose wife Vrinda (who was a form of Tulsi) was the supreme devotee of Lord Vishnu. For this reason, Tulsi is considered taboo in Shiva Puja.
3. Ketki flower Ketki’s flower may be beautiful in appearance, but it is also forbidden to offer it on Shivling. According to the legend, there was a dispute about who is superior between Brahma and Vishnu. Then a giant Shivalinga appeared and Akashvani took place that the one who will find its beginning and end, it would be superior. Brahmaji lied that he had seen the upper end of Shivling and in this lie, Ketki’s flower testified him. As soon as this thing was known to Lord Shiva, he deprived Ketki flower of his worship.
4. Broken rice (Akshat) Rice is called Akshat, which means ‘which is not fragmented’. In worship, only whole and unbroken rice are offered, because they are a symbol of perfection and prosperity. Never offer broken rice on Shivling. Only offer Akshat.
5. Water from conch: Offering water from conch on Lord Shiva is also prohibited. There is also a legend behind this. Lord Shiva killed an asura named Shankhachud and the form of Shankchud was conch. Therefore, water is not offered to Lord Shiva from the conch.
6. Broken belpat : Belpatra is very dear to Lord Shiva, but care should also be taken while offering it. Never offer broken or fragmented bell -letters on Shivling. Belpatra should always be with three leaves, whole and clean. Offering a chopped bell-paper does not get the complete fruit of worship.
It is very important to follow these rules while worshiping Lord Shiva in Sawan. Except for these forbidden things, you should offer his favorite things to Mahadev with pure mind and true devotion. By doing this your worship will be successful and you will get the blessings of Lord Shiva.
