Thailand and Cambodia Clash: At least 16 people have been killed in a clash between the soldiers of Thailand and Cambodian. Most of those who died are common citizens. Both sides have attacked with small arms, cannon and rocket. So far both countries have not given any indication of retreat. The two countries have expelled each other’s ambassadors, which has tarnished the possibilities of quick diplomatic solution. According to United Nations Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq, United Nations Secretary -General Antonio Guterres has urged both sides to “resolve maximum restraint and resolve any issue through negotiations.
Cambodia attacks rapidly, watch video
A video of a clash between Thailand and Cambodia has also surfaced. It can be seen in the video that the RM-70 multiple-launch rocket system (MLRS) on goals in the Royal Cambodian Army Thailand is attacking. Thailand also accused Cambodia of using artillery and Russia-made BM-21 rocket systems to target several areas including schools and hospitals. The Thai army said in a statement, “These barbaric acts have unnecessarily killed many people and have injured many innocent citizens.”
‘Clashes can turn into war’
Thailand’s acting Prime Minister Fummatha Vachayachai has warned that the clashes across the border can “turn into war.” He said that Cambodia has started attacking several fronts and Thailand is protecting its territory. “The current situation includes infiltration and aggression activities that are damaging people’s lives. The situation has become serious and can turn into a position of war. Currently, it is a conflict related to heavy weapons,” he told reporters.
Clash near the temple
General Khow Lee, Chief Officer of Cambodia in Odar Minche province, said on Friday that clashes started again in the morning near the ancient Ta Mun Thom Temple. The official also said that at least four common citizens were injured in the clash on Thursday and more than 4,000 people had to be displaced from the villages along the border who have been sent to the shelter centers. This is the first information given by the Cambodian side about the casualties.
