Thiruvananthapuram: PM Modi dedicated Vizhinjam International Port to the nation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Vizhinjam International Port on Friday (May 2). State Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was also present during this period. On this occasion, PM Modi said that this port has been constructed at a cost of Rs 8,800 crore, and the capacity of its transmission hub will be three times in the near future. It is designed to accommodate large cargo vessels. This port fulfills the long -standing needs of the country.

The PM said that till now, 75% of India’s transmission work was done at foreign ports. This caused a big loss of revenue to the country. Now the money spent abroad will be used to domestic development. This will create new economic opportunities for the people of Vizhinjam and Kerala, which will ensure that the property of the country directly benefit its citizens.

Transport system getting better in Kerala

The PM said that our India has seen thousands of years of prosperity before slavery. At one time, India used to have a big share in global GDP. The thing that used to make us different from other countries at that time was the ability to transport water. Commercial use of our ports. Kerala contributed a lot in this. Now the Government of India has improved the port infrastructure under the Sagarmala project in collaboration with the State Government. Port connectivity has also increased. Water transport, rail, highway and air transport are better connected to each other. They are being improved at a fast pace.

The capacity of ports doubled in 10 years

PM Modi said, “A decade hard work and visionary scheme has contributed to India’s notable success. In the last 10 years, we have doubled the capacity of our ports and expanded our waterways eight times. Today, our two ports are one of the top 30 ports in the world. Along with this, our situation has improved on our status on the logistics performance index. Implemented significant reforms to benefit the country’s sailors, which have led to the promotional results in 2014, there were less than 1.25 lakh sailors.

Vizhinjam international port will change Kerala’s appearance

With the commissioning of this port, Kerala is expected to establish firmly on the global maritime map and a change in India’s role in international trade and maritime. The port is built by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited. This deep water port was built under public-private partnership. The project was completed at an estimated cost of Rs 8,867 crore. After successful testing, the port received a commercial commissioning certificate on December 4 last year. It is also the country’s first dedicated transpiration port and the first semi-automatic port. It is located just 10 knots from a major international shipping route and its water is naturally deep. This will make it easier for large cargo vessels to pass after loading and removing goods from here.

The Chief Minister of Kerala expressed gratitude

During the inauguration ceremony of the Vizhinjam port, PM Modi said, “Today is the birth anniversary of Lord Adi Shankaracharya. Three years ago I had the privilege of going to his birthplace area in September. Adi Shankaracharya awakened the nation’s consciousness by establishing monasteries in different corners of the country. At the same time, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said, “On behalf of the people of Kerala, I once again thank the Prime Minister that he visited our kingdom to dedicate this historic project to the nation. I also congratulate the Adani group to implement this mission with excellence.”
