The trend of remakeing superhit films in another language is not new. Priyadarshan remakeed his old Malayalam classics in Bollywood and made a career in Hindi cinema and became a famous director of Bollywood as well. Recently, Atley had exploded at the box office with his first Hindi film ‘Jawan’. But, in 2010, there was a director who created a panic by releasing in 1 year with three remakes of his same film. This famous film maker earned the same film in three languages, with three different star casts and she was all blockbusters. Still he could not enter Bollywood.

Director who gave three hit remakes of the same film

Siddiqui Ismail, who is only known as Siddiqui in the film world. He started his film career as an assistant to Fazil in Malayalam cinema. He later worked together with Lal and the pair of Siddiqui-Lal gave many hits to Mollywood. However, after his separation in the 90s, Siddiqui started directing films alone. In 2010, he directed the ‘Bodyguard’, with Dileep with Nayantara and Mithra Kurien. The film achieved tremendous success at the box office, which led to the demand for its remake in Tamil and Telugu film industry. A few months later, Siddiqui built the Tamil remake ‘Kavalan’. It starred Vijay, Asin and Mithra Kurien. After this, director Siddiqui did wonders. A year before the release of ‘Bodyguard’, Siddiqui started working with a Hindi remake. The film, named ‘Bodyguard’, also featured Raj Babbar and Hazel Keech along with Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor. The film earned Rs 253 crore and at the time of its release it was one of the highest -grossing Hindi films.

Siddiqui gave many hit films in a short time

Siddiqui returned to Malayalam cinema after the success of three remake films of ‘Bodyguard’. He had offers from many Bollywood stars who wanted to work with them after the success of ‘Bodyguard’. However, Siddiqui had Malayalam cinema in his mind. In 2018, he made a remake of his film again, a Tamil film ‘Bhaskar Oru Raskal’. And in 2020, he directed his final film ‘Big Brother’ starring Mohanlal and Arbaaz Khan. Siddiqui was suffering from liver cirrhosis in his last days and died in July 2023 after a prolonged illness. He was only 55 years old.
