The cricket career of former Sri Lankan domestic all -rounder Salia Saman Saman has suffered a major setback. The ICC’s Independent Anti-Corruption Tribunal has banned him from cricket for 5 years, convicting him in several cases of corruption during the 2021 Abu Dhabi T10 League. This ban has been backdated since 13 September 2023, that is, he has already been sentenced to 2 years.

Salia Saman was associated with the Pune Devils franchise in the Abu Dhabi T10 League in 2021. In that season, the team won only 1 out of 6 matches and finished last. According to the ICC, Saman made serious violations such as influencing the match in the 2020-21 season (Article 2.1.1), rewarding players for corruption (Article 2.1.3), and encouraging others to break the code (Article 2.1.4).

Talking about a cricketing career, 39-year-old Salia Saman’s domestic career has been having a hideout, he has played 101 First-Class, 77 List A and 47 T20 matches, with a total of more than 5000 runs and more than 350 wickets. But due to corruption, his name is now in controversy.

Summons were not alone in this case. In September 2023, ICC accused a total of 8 people, all of which belonged to Pune Devils. During this league, Bangladesh all -rounder Nasir Hussain also had to face a 2 -year ban on corruption charges, which was completed this year and he has returned to the Dhaka Premier League.
