This worm eats alive humans, stirred by getting more than 5000 cases in Mexico
Screw.
Washington/Sydney: There has been a stir due to the insect of living humans in the world. Its 5086 cases have been reported in Mexico, in which more than 3 dozen cases have been reported in humans. According to NPR News, for the first time in America, this parasite who eats the meat of human being alive has come to know. The first case has been registered in a human being in America. This has created a stir in the whole world. Let us know who is this parasite eating alive humans and how does the flesh of living humans and animals eat?
Parasite that comes to humans alive in the world
The nomination of this parasite has been kept in the world screen. It penetrates inside the wounds of humans and animals alive like a screw. Its texture is also like some screw. Hence it has been called a screw. In the US, a case of screen has been registered in the first man. It is a parasite, which is now spreading from South America to the north. This has raised a wave of concern in the US animal industry in recent months.
5086 cases found in Mexico
Most of the cases of this parasite have been registered in Mexico. A total of 5086 cases have been found in humans and animals, out of which about 41 cases are of humans. While other cases are of animals. These include cows, dogs, horses and other animals. At the same time, the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has also confirmed the matter in the US on August 4 in collaboration with the Maryland Health Department. This screw was found in a patient who returned from a trip to Lalvador. Health and Human Services Department spokesman Andrew Nixon gave this information to NPR.
What is New World Screwm?
According to CDC, the New World Screworm is a type of parasitic fly found in South America and Caribbean regions. Its female fly gives its eggs in the skin wounded by living animals or in an open part of the body. The larvae (insects) emanating from the eggs infect the animal’s meat in a living state. This infection is rare in human affairs, but it can be extremely painful and can also be fatal when not getting treatment.
The worm can reach the brain
Professor Max Scott of Northern Carolina State University said, “If the infection starts, more flies start laying eggs, then its insects can reach the brain or other sensitive parts of the body, causing serious conditions such as sepsis (blood infection).” Although it is not a virus, but an insect, the infection is not contagious.
Why is animal industry worried in America?
In the last one year, it was found in animal farms in parasitic Mexico and is now moving towards the US-Mexico border. In view of this danger, the US government has taken several steps. In 2025, the USDA announced a plan to create the US’s first “Sterile Fly Production Facility” in Edinburgh, Texas to deal with this parasite, where 30 million infertile flies will be prepared every week. In this technique, flies are made infertile with radiation and left them in the atmosphere. So that female flies have sexual intercourse with infertile male and cannot lay eggs. With this technology, the US abolished the screwmate in 1966 and a small outbreak in Florida was also controlled in 2017.
Where and why this parasite is spreading now?
According to Professor Scott, the reason for this may be the movement of infected animals, a decrease in the effectiveness of the existing sterile flies and the breakdown of natural barriers. Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Honduras have recently reported new cases. In 2024, a human died in Costa Rica. This is considered to be the first human death since 1990. In July 2025, Nicaragua confirmed 124 cases. The US imported cattle imports from Mexico in November 2024, which was removed in February and re -implemented in May. A new sterile fly plant to control this screw will be ready by 2026 in Mexico.
