Uttarakhand: Today, with the opening of the doors of Badrinath Dham, the journey of Chardham has started. On this occasion, flowers were rained at the Badrinath temple. Earlier, the doors of Gangotri, Yamunotri and Kedarnath were opened. There are many such things about Badrinath Dham, which is surprised to know.

Habitat of Lord Vishnu

Badrinath Dham is considered to be the abode of Lord Vishnu. The main idol of Badrinath here is made of Shaligram stone and it is dedicated to the Badri avatar of Lord Vishnu. This idol is considered self -proclaimed, which means that it was not made by any human.

The secret of opening and closure

The doors of Badrinath Dham open for only six months in a year. The temple is open to pilgrims only from May to November. After the doors are closed, a lamp is lit in the temple which continues to burn for six months. It is a secret how this lamp keeps on burning for so long.

Narada Kund and Tapt Kund

There are two pools near the temple- Narada Kund and Tapta Kund. The water of Narada Kund is cold, while the water of the hot tank is hot. It is believed that taking a bath in the taping tank wash all sins. The water of this pool is also considered medicinal properties.

Role of Adi Shankaracharya

The credit for the present form of Badrinath Dham goes to Adi Shankaracharya, the great saint of the 8th century. He re -installed the idol of Lord Badrinath from Narada Kund from here.

Mythology

There are many mythological stories related to Badrinath Dham. According to a legend, Lord Vishnu did penance here and Goddess Lakshmi gave him a shadow by becoming a Badri tree i.e. plum tree, so this place was named Badrinath. According to another legend, the Pandavas started the journey from here to ascension.

Lamp

Badrinath Dham is located at a very height of about 3,133 meters (10,279 ft). Due to this height, the weather here is very cold in winter. This is the reason that the doors of the temple are closed in winter.
