During the Pakistan vs Bangladesh match in the Cricket World Cup 2023 in Kolkata, Pakistan speedster Shaheen Afridi became the latest entrant in the 100 ODI wickets club. Shaheen Afridi achieved this feat with the wicket of Tanzid Hasan in the first over of the match.

Afridi got the ball to swing in and then nipped back off the pitch into the left-hander Tanzid Hasan and dismissed the batsman lbw. The fast bowler celebrated in his famous pose of stretching his arms wide and chest widened before being surrounded by his teammates.

This wicket not just put Shaheen into the 100 ODI wickets list, but propelled him to number 3 among the quickest bowlers (in terms of matches taken) to 100 ODI wickets. He is also now the quickest among pace bowlers to 100 ODI wickets!

Afridi had been on 99 ODI wickets heading into this encounter, which is Shaheen’s 51st ODI match. The wicket of Tanzid completed his haul of 100 ODI wickets, making him the third quickest, in terms of matches, and the quickest pacer to 100 ODI scalps.

Nepal’s Sandeep Lamichhane holds the record of being the fastest to 100 ODI wickets. He attained his magnificent feat in only 42 ODI matches. Just following him is another leg-spinner, Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan, who took 44 ODIs to reach the 100 ODI wickets landmark.

In the pace bowlers’ list of quickest to 100 ODI wickets, Shaheen tops it having taken only 51 ODIs, and is followed by Australia’s Mitchell Starc who needed 52 ODIs to take 100 scalps in the format. New Zealand’s Shane Bond and Bangladesh’s Mustafizur Rahman both took 54 ODIs for their 100 ODI wickets. Brett Lee is at the 5th spot with 55 ODI matches to take 100 ODI wickets.
