Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the release of goods and service tax (GST) refund traders of about Rs 1600 crore before Diwali from 2019 on Sunday. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta convened a special meeting of the GST department at his camp office in Civil Lines on Sunday, in which GST Commissioner Nandini Paliwal, Finance Secretary Shurvir Singh and other senior officers of the department were present.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta claimed that the previous (Aam Aadmi Party government) government failed to take any concrete measures to settle this pending GST refund of Rs 1600 crore. The CM directed that the entire refund should be distributed to the traders before Deepawali. He said that to make the refund process faster and more transparent, the Delhi GST department has developed an advance IT module with the help of IIT-Hyderabad. The Chief Minister has also directed the officials concerned to ensure that all pending, undisputed and real refund applications are strictly disposed of as per the rules on priority basis.

Important meeting of GST Council is going to be held in Delhi

Let us tell you that on September 3 and 4, an important and important meeting of the GST Council is going to be held in Delhi. In this meeting, a proposal will be decided to reduce GST from the existing 4 slabs to 2 slabs. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will preside over this meeting. The central government has proposed to keep only 2 slabs- 5% and 18% of GST. There will be 5 percent GST on ‘merit’ category products and services and 18 percent on ‘standard’ category products and services. Apart from this, it is also proposed to create a separate slab of 40 percent GST for some luxury and harmful products.
