Number of mobile users
TRAI has released the subscriber data of May. Jio has once again added the most users to their networks, making a splash. Jio’s market share has increased to 40.92 percent. At the same time, BSNL and VI have suffered heavy losses. As of 31 May 2025, the number of mobile users in India has increased to 116.84 crores. This number was 116.64 crores in April. In the month of May, 2 million new mobile users have increased. At the same time, the number of broadband users has also crossed 97.48 crores. More than 3 crore new broadband users are connected against 94.30 crores in April. It has a growth of 3.37 percent.
Jio dominance
Reliance Jio has added more than 2.7 million new mobile users to their networks in May like April. Jio had a total of 47.24 crore mobile users in April, which increased to 47.51 crores in May. Jio’s market share has also increased to 40.92 percent due to joining new users.
The number of Airtel subscribers has also increased rapidly. As of 31 May 2025, the total number of Airtel users has increased to 39.02 crores. In April, Airtel had 38.99 crore users. The company has added more than 2 lakh new users to its network. Airtel’s market share has also increased to 33.61 percent.
Heavy loss to BSNL and VI
BSNL and VI users have once again decreased. More than 1.35 lakh users of the government telecom company have decreased in May. At the same time, more than 2.74 lakh users of VI have left the operator. MTNL has the highest number of more than 4.7 lakh users. BSNL’s market share has come down to 7.82 percent due to low users. At the same time, the market share of VI and MTNL is 17.61 percent and 0.04 percent respectively.
In April, Vodafone Idea had 20.47 crore mobile users, which has come down to 20.44 crores in May. At the same time, BSNL had 9.09 crore users in April, which decreased to 9.07 crore in May. Users of BSNL subsidiary company MTNL have come down from 9.3 lakh to just 4.59 lakhs in May.
5G FWA users became less
The number of 5G FWA users decreased in May. The total number of 5G FWA users in April was 74.99 lakhs, which has come down to 73.95 in May. The number of more than 1 lakh 5G FWA users has decreased in May. The number of 5G FWA users of Airtel increased in May. In April, the company had 13.57 lakh 5G FWA users, which increased to 15.40 lakhs in May. Jio suffered heavy losses in May. Jio had 61.41 lakh 5G FWA users in April, which has come down to 58.54 lakhs in May.
