New York: US President Donald Trump has been engulfed in his own country due to imposing 50 percent tariff on India. Indian-origin American MP Roe Khanna and two former top US officials warned that Trump’s policies are weakening the Indo-US strategic partnership. He said that Trump’s “ego” cannot be allowed to destroy relations with India in the world’s largest democracy.

America a big shock due to spoiling relations with India

America’s Asian strategy has suffered the biggest setback on spoiling relations with India. Trump’s policies have strengthened this trio by bringing China together along with India-Russia. This is the biggest threat to America. Ro Khanna, a US-India Cock’s co-chairman, said that he is shocked by Trump’s footsteps “destroying” the partnership with India. He alleged that Trump is taking decisions that are pushing back the progress of three decades of partnership. Especially through imposing 50% tariff on imported goods from India and 25% additional duty on oil purchase from Russia.

“Trump’s policies are pushing India close to Russia and China”

Khanna warned that these policies of Trump are bringing India away from America and closer to Russia-China, which is strategically harmful to the US. He said, “Tariffs imposed on India are more than any other country except Brazil. Even the largest customers buying energy from Russia are more than China. He said that it has affected India’s leather and textile exports in the US, as well as harmful to American producers and American exports in India.

“Trump’s resentment over the Nobel Prize became the reason”

Khanna said that the root of this entire issue is from personal resentment. He claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi refused to nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, while Pakistan nominated him. This led to tension in Indo-US relations. (Language)
