Kovid-19’s new variant spreading in India
Amidst the increase in new cases of Kovid-19 in many states of India, there have been cases of two new variants-NB.1.8.1 and LF.7 in the country. This information has been received from the latest data of the Central Government agency Indian Sars-Cov-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG).
However, WHO has not considered them worrying, but has categorized as a variant kept under surveillance. This variant is visible in the increasing cases of Kovid in other countries of Asia including China. However, spike protein mutations such as A435S, V445H, and T478i of NB.1.8.1 spread faster than other variants. They do not affect the immunity against Kovid.
Kovid’s JN.1 variant is the most common in India. This variant is found in more than half of the samples in testing. This is followed by cases of BA.2 (26 percent) and Omikron Sabalines (20 percent) variants.
