Juba, 16 October (Hindustan Reporter). Uganda has qualified for the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco after beating South Sudan 2-1 in a thrilling encounter on Tuesday.

Uganda had defeated South Sudan 1-0 in the reverse match in Kampala on 11 October.

South Sudan head coach Nicolas Dupuis said Uganda was the better team in the individual contests, which he said was crucial in deciding the match.

“It was very difficult for us because Uganda was better than us, so I think the result is normal,” Dupuis said at a briefing in Juba, the South Sudan capital. Individually they were better, but we worked harder. It’s not enough but we played against a good team.

Dupuis said his team is now focused on their upcoming clash against Kenya at the Total Energies African Nations Championship on October 25.

Uganda head coach Paul Joseph Put said he was proud of the way his team dominated from the beginning to the end of the match.

Put said, I think every good team we have seen, they took the initiative from the first moment to the end, I think South Sudan was a bit dangerous in corner kicks because of the length of their players, but we won the game. But maintained his dominance.

He said that his team could have scored more goals due to the many chances created throughout the 90 minutes of the match. Uganda tops Group K, which also includes South Africa, Republic of Congo and South Sudan.
