Kyiv: Ukraine has elected its new Prime Minister amidst the ongoing war with Russia. In a historic decision taken on Wednesday in Ukraine’s Parliament Verkhovna Rada, Yulia Swiridenko was elected the new Prime Minister of the country. In the voting in Parliament, 262 MPs voted in his favor, while 22 protested and 26 members distanced them from voting. Thus Yulia was elected the new Prime Minister of Ukraine by majority. President Jelnesky gave full support to Yulia.

Yulia Swiridenko, who was earlier served as the first Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy. Now she is going to become the first woman Prime Minister of the country. This decision has come at a time when Ukraine is taking decisive steps towards internal stability and economic reconstruction between the ongoing war with Russia.

President Zelanskey supported

Swiridenko’s candidature was fully supported by President Volodimir Zelanskey. The President’s Office issued a statement before the voting, stating that Swiridenko has the necessary administrative experience and crisis management, which can lead the country to this difficult period.

What are the priorities of Swiridans?

In his first address after being elected to the post of Prime Minister, Swiridenko said, “This is a very sensitive and decisive time for Ukraine. My goal is to stabilize the war -time economy, strengthen international cooperation and speed up reconstruction efforts.” He also emphasized that his government would faster the reforms of Ukraine’s membership in the European Union and NATO.
