Unique ‘Garbage Cafe’ of Chhattisgarh, where plastic waste is found in lieu
India’s First Garbage Cafe: Have you ever thought that your waste can become a means of eating for you? A unique attempt has been made in Ambikapur city of Chhattisgarh, which has made headlines across the country. Here the Municipal Corporation has started a ‘Garbage Cafe’ where people can get food and breakfast for free by collecting plastic waste. This initiative is not only helping to keep the city clean, but is also giving full food to the poor and homeless.
How this unique cafe works,
This ‘Garbage Cafe’, run by Ambikapur Municipal Corporation, is an innovative initiative, giving a new dimension to ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’. The rule here is very simple:
, Bring 1 kg plastic waste, Get plenty of food: If a person accumulates 1 kg plastic waste, such as bottles, plastic bags or other plastic items, he gets a nutritious and filled food (plate) in the cafe.
, Breakfast for half a kilo of plastic: If a person accumulates 500 grams (half a kilo) plastic waste, he is given breakfast for free.
This initiative is especially for those who are financially weak and who have to struggle for food.
Solve two problems simultaneously
This initiative is solving two big problems simultaneously:
1. Reduce plastic pollution: Ambikapur is one of the cities in India which is far ahead in terms of cleanliness. This is an effective way to collect ‘Garbage Cafe’ plastic waste, which helps to keep the environment clean. The plastic waste accumulated is later used in the construction of roads or in other recycling functions.
2. Removing the problem of hunger: This cafe has become a lifeline for those who are homeless or who do not have money to buy food. This gives them a chance to get a lot of food while maintaining their dignity. This initiative fulfills the objectives of the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ and ‘Garib Kalyan’ of the Government of India simultaneously.
Identification of Ambikapur
Ambikapur has earlier made many innovations in the field of cleanliness. The solid waste management system has been adopted by many cities. ‘Garbage Cafe’ is another successful step in the same episode, which has shown that if the government and society work together, the biggest problem can be solved. This cafe is an inspiring model, which can also be adopted in other cities of the country.
