Uproar over the sale of Lord Jagannath’s picture notch, case on e-commerce portal

There has been an uproar in Odisha after the Chinese e-commerce platform ‘Alixpress’ sold the case of selling the rank of Lord Jagannath. Seeing the seriousness of the matter, Shri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has lodged an FIR at the cyber police station in Puri on Thursday. The temple administration has said that this act of e-commerce platform has hurt religious sentiments of Hindus around the world.
Odisha deputy CM condemns
Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida has also described and criticized Lord Jagannath’s portrait as objectionable to print and sell it on the rung. Pravati Parida has demanded an e-commerce platform apology. Deputy CM Pravati Parida said- ‘Mahaprabhu Jagannath is deeply associated with the soul and feelings of each Odia. I strongly condemn the Chinese e-commerce platform ‘Alixpress’ selling the notch with the image of Mahaprabhu Jagannath. The company should immediately stop its sale and apologize to the devotees for this objectionable act.
What was said in the complaint?
The complaint given at the cyber police station in Puri states that “Hindus worship Lord Jagannath. It is an insult to the devotees and there is a serious attack on the cultural and religious sentiments of Hindus around the world. People set foot on the foot and the religious sentiments of Hindus are hurt by the image of Lord Jagannath. According to the law, the necessary legal action should be taken against the convict.
What did the company clarify?
Odisha Congress MLA Sophia Firdaus also condemned the entire incident on X. He said- “I strongly condemn the blasphemous act of selling Lord Jagannath’s holy image on Alixpress. This is a gross insult to millions of devotees and a serious attack on cultural and religious sentiments. Immediate action should be taken to remove this product from sale and publicly apologize.
