His parents Radhakrishna and Lakshmi moved to America in the 1980s. Usha is one of his three children. Maa Lakshmi is an expert in molecular biology and biochemistry. He currently holds a key administrative position at the University of San Diego as a professor. His father Radhakrishna is known to everyone as Krish Chilukuri. He is an aerospace engineer.
