In view of the increasing demand of passengers, the Railway Board has decided to add additional coaches to ‘Vande Bharat trains’ on seven major operating routes. Officials gave this information on Thursday. With this step, more seats will be available to passengers on these busy routes.
On which routes will the coaches grow?
The routes on which additional coaches will be added to Vande Bharat trains-
- Mangaluru Central-Tiruvananthapuram Central
- Cellasia
- Chennai agmore-tirunelveli
- Madurai Bangalore Cantt
- Deoghar Varanasi
- Howrah-Rauurkela
- Indore-Nagpur
According to officials, at present, three Vande Bharat with eight coaches and 16 coaches with eight coaches are being run on these routes.
Increase in the number of coaches
Dilip Kumar, Executive Director of Railway Board’s Information and Publicity Department, said, “The number of coaches will be increased to 20 in the 16 coaches Vande Bharat train. While the Vande Bharat with eight coaches will be added to the number of coaches by adding the same additional coaches to the train.”
According to Kumar, “The financial year 2025-26 (up to 31.07.2025) is planned to increase the number of coaches temporarily in the three Vande Bharat train with 16 coaches and coach growth in the three Vande Bharat train with 20 and eight coaches to increase the number of coaches to 16.”
Use of trains for new services
Officials also informed that after the upgrade of seven Vande Bharat trains, there are plans to launch several more Vande Bharat trains with 20 coaches. A train with 16 coaches will be available for expansion. Kumar said that a temporary replacement scheme of Vande Bharat Seva is also being prepared on the basis of the number of passengers. After this, 16 and 8 coach trains will be used to start new services.
- After the upgrade, 20 coach trains will run instead of 16 instead of 16 on Mangaluru Central-Tiruvananthapuram Central, Secunderabad-Tirupati and Chennai Egmore-Tirunelveli route.
- At the same time, Vande Bharat trains with 16 coaches will be run instead of 8 on the Madurai-Bangalore Cantt, Deoghar-Varanasi, Howrah-Rourkela and Indore-Nagpur road.
