The Indian Railways is set to introduce a faster way to travel between New Delhi and Agra in the form of the Vand Bharat Metro which is expected to go on trial in July. The new train is expected to slash the travel time between the 2 cities to just 1.5 hours.

New Delhi: The Indian Railways has announced a new Vande Bharat Metro connecting New Delhi to the city of Agra in Uttar Pradesh in just 1.5 hours! The new Vande Bharat Metro is likely to connect the two cities that are 200 km apart at a speed of 160 kmph. Currently, two Vande Bharat trains pass via Agra. However, the city is set to receive its first standalone Vande Bharat route connecting it to New Delhi soon. Agra is also proposed to receive Vande Bharat Metros connecting it to Prayagraj and other important cities in Uttar Pradesh.

New Delhi-Agra Vande Bharat Metro features

• The New Delhi-Agra Vande Bharat Metro is expected to provide stiff competition to the New Delhi Intercity Express, according to officials.
• The new Vande Bharat Metro is likely to have 16 coaches.
• The new train underwent an armour system trial on the route between Palwal and Vrindavan, the Republic reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
• The trial was conducted using an 8-coach Vande Bharat Metro train at a speed of 160 kmph.
• The trial was successful as overseen by RailBoard Chairperson and CEO Jaya Varma Sinha. The train stopped automatically at the red light without the loco pilot’s intervention, thanks to the armour.
• Trials for the train on the New Delhi Agra route will be conducted in July, according to people familiar with the matter.

New Delhi-Agra Vande Bharat Metro route, timings

• The New Delhi Agra Vande Bharat Metro train is likely to pass via Lucknow.
• Currently, the New Delhi Intercity Express starts from Agra at 5:50 am.
• The new Vande Bharat Metro may start from New Delhi early in the morning to provide similar connectivity to Agra-bound passengers.
• The train fare and route will be annou8nced two weeks after the train trial on the actual route.

• Agra-Lucknow
• Agra-Prayagraj
• Agra-Jaipur

• Delhi-Khajuraho Vande Bharat Express
