Vice President Election- NDA candidate Radhakrishnan filled nomination

NDA Vice Presidential candidate CP Radhakrishnan has filed nomination. PM Narendra Modi became the first proposer. Many leaders including Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and BJP President JP Nadda were present during the nomination. Prior to nomination, Radhakrishnan offered flowers to the Gandhi statue located in the Parliament complex.

His name was agreed in the BJP Parliamentary Party meeting held on August 17. BJP President JP Nadda announced the name of Radhakrishnan by holding a press conference.

Radhakrishnan will compete with the retired Justice B Sudarshan Reddy of the Supreme Court. The special thing is that both the candidates are from South. Reddy will enroll on 21 August.

Voting will be held on 9 September for the Vice Presidential election. There will also be counting on the same day. The last date for filing nomination is 21 August. Candidates can be withdrawn by 25 August.

In fact, the Vice President is being elected due to Jagdeep Dhankhar’s sudden resignation on the night of 21 July. The tenure of 74 -year -old Dhankar was till 10 August 2027.

Retired Justice B Sudarshan Reddy Vice President Candidate of Opposition

India has nominated retired Justice B Sudarshan Reddy from the Supreme Court on August 19 for the Vice Presidential election. He will face NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan.

The 79 -year -old Reddi has been the Chief Justice of the Guwahati High Court and the first Lokayukta of Goa. He hails from Andhra Pradesh. In 2007, a judge of the Supreme Court was appointed.

The special thing is that both the candidates are from South. Retired Justice Reddy is from Andhra Pradesh, while CP Radhakrishnan is from Tamil Nadu. Radhakrishnan will file nominations on 20 while Reddy will file nominations on 21 August.

NDA candidate decided to win

The total number of MPs in the Lok Sabha is 542. One seat is vacant. NDA has 293 MPs. At the same time, there are 245 MPs in the Rajya Sabha. 5 seats are vacant. The NDA has 129 MPs. Assuming that the members enrolled for the Vice President will also vote in favor of the NDA candidate.

In this way, the ruling alliance has a total support of a total of 422 members. The majority needs support from 391 MPs. In August 2022, NDA candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar received 528 votes. At the same time, opposition candidate Margate Alva got only 182 votes. Then 56 MPs did not vote.
