Vice President is chosen in 6 steps, understand like this
First the list of electoral college is made: The first electoral list is made for the election of Vice President. It consists of all elected and nominated members of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The total number of members in both houses is 782. There is 542 in Lok Sabha and 240 in Rajya Sabha. In such a situation, the same person will be elected to the post of new Deputy President, who will have support of 394 members. If you look at this mathematics, the NDA has a majority of 422 members in both houses.
Notification will be released on 7 August: The Election Commission announced the dates of the Vice President on 1 August. The notification will be released on 7 August. Nomination starts as soon as the notification is issued. Its last date is 21 August.
Support of 20 MPs required for enrollment: The candidate must be proposed by at least 20 MPs. Apart from this, the support of 20 MPs is also needed.
MPs are the voters, hence the publicity limited: only MPs are voters in elections. Therefore, this publicity is in a limited range. Candidates and their supporters are involved in campaigning.
How to vote: Every MP ticks candidates in order of priority (1, 2, 3…) on the ballot. Voting takes place only when more than one candidate is in the fray. Otherwise, when a candidate is a candidate, the candidate wins the election unopposed.
Voting and results on the same day: The result comes only after voting. The reason for this is that 782 members of both houses vote. They are counted in a few hours. For victory, a majority of total valid votes i.e. more than 50% is to be obtained. The results are then declared. This time voting will take place on September 9 between 10 am to 5 am.
