Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar’s resignation approved, President Draupadi Murmu approves
President Draupadi Murmu has accepted the resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar.
New Delhi: President Draupadi Murmu accepted the resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Tuesday. Dhankhar resigned from his post on Monday evening citing health reasons. Jagdeep Dhankhar had written in his resignation letter to President Draupadi Murmu said, “I am resigning from the post of Vice President of India with immediate effect to give priority to my health and to accept the advice of doctors.” He cited Article 67 (A) of the Constitution in his letter.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reacted to Jagdeep Dhankhar’s resignation. He wrote on the social media platform x, ‘Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar ji has got the opportunity to serve the country in many roles including the Vice President of India. I wish him good health. ‘ PM Modi appreciated Dhankhar’s long public life and his services.
Home Ministry issued notification
The notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs was read in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, which asked to accept Jagdeep Dhankhar’s resignation with immediate effect. Ghanshyam Tiwari, who is presiding over the session, gave this information to the House during the Question Hour at 12 noon. He said, “The Ministry of Home Affairs said in a notification issued on 22 July 2025 that the resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has been accepted with immediate effect under Article 67 (A) of the Constitution.”
Political journey of Jagdeep Dhankhar
74 years Jagdeep Dhankar became the Vice President in August 2022. He was also the ex -officio Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. In the Vice Presidential election held on 6 August 2022, he won a stunning victory by defeating the opposition candidate Margaret Alva. Dhankhar received 528 votes, which was the highest for any Vice President in the last three decades. Earlier, Dhankar has been the Governor of West Bengal, where he often made headlines due to a conflict with the state government.
